How To Catch Crappie Fish

There is a good reason crappie are some of the most popular and common fish to fish for

. Anglers have learned that they are a fun and easy species, even if you have little to no experience with them. This is why it is easier to learn how to catch crappie fish no matter what your current experience level. The more you know about them and how other people fish for them, the easier it will be for you.

If you want to know how to catch crappie fish, there's good news because there is a wealth of information out there about how to fish for this great species of fish. You can use this information provided by other fisherman to your advantage to help you learn to fish for crappie, too.

The following three tips are going to nearly guarantee the success of at least hooking a few crappie on your fishing trip:

1. Choose the Right Location

The most important thing to remember when it comes to crappie fishing is where to locate these elusive fish. Crappies are school fish and will tend to run in large schools. If you catch one crappie, chances are there are many others in the same area. It is not often that there is going to be a migrant or solitary crappie. They want the protection of numbers and are going to be found in locations where there is some shelter from predators.

Look at the shore of the lake, stream or river. Is there a log submerged in the water? Can you find areas with over hanging branches or groups of rocks? These are the most common areas that you are going to find crappie hiding out and looking for food. This is where their prey is going to be as well. When you throw your line in and if you catch any baby perch or blue gill, the odds are that there are going to be some large crappie in the area as well. Sticking to these areas is a great tip for catching crappie.

2. Use Natural Bait

If you want to catch crappie, you should always use bait that is going to be a natural prey to them. Since they live on blue gills and perch, then it is going to be a good idea to have some minnows of those species of fish to catch the crappie. You can find these minnows at any bait shop and they are not too expensive.
