1. Choose the Right Location

If you catch one crappie, chances are there are many others in the same area. It is not often that there is going to be a migrant or solitary crappie. They want the protection of numbers and are going to be found in locations where there is some shelter from predators.

Look at the shore of the lake, stream or river. Is there a log submerged in the water? Can you find areas with over hanging branches or groups of rocks? These are the most common areas that you are going to find crappie hiding out and looking for food. This is where their prey is going to be as well.
