You always swipe the plastic card. In fact, you use it everywhere for many purchases. Suddenly, you discover you made a late payment or that you overspent! Your reward for this habit is high interest rates!

Such is the lifestyle of spending on credit. When you realize you are like that, it is time to ditch the card and save yourself. But it is often easier said than done, especially with kicking this spending-with-credit-card habit. The best way to do this is to get rid of every single credit card that you currently have. Of course, do not throw them away into the rubbish bin! Do it by calling up your banks and then cancel them.

Do not ever spend on consumer items (cars, furniture, boats, vacations, etc.) by credit. This is by far the single most effective advice any person can get on personal finance.

You would be better off saving for what you want (usually expensive consumer items) and paying it with cold hard cash. That is even a good habit to begin with.

The fact is, nobody needs more than 3 credit cards. An amount beyond that is just ridiculous and asking for trouble. However, most people agree that credit cards can be very convenient to use during certain times. Sure, when filling up for gas for your car? Yes, that is a good example.

An alternative to a credit card is the debit card. Such a card (debit) will eventually force you to correct all the faulty spending habits you have been indulging in for so long. For some, it may be their only saviour in the world of finance.
