If you have any intention of joining the Army then it is vitally important that you take the time to understand the scoring criteria. If you know the scoring criteria then you have a brilliant chance of gaining very high scores.The scoring criteria that I am going to provide you with during this article relates to your own personal attributes, qualities and also your knowledge of the Army and your chosen career. This information will act as a very good foundation for your preparation. If you are capable of providing the Army selecting officers with what they are looking for then your chances of success will greatly increase. The marking sheet used to assess your abilities covers a number of different assessable areas. The following list is a selection of some of the criteria used:- Personal turnout;- Sociability;- Emotional maturity and stability;- Drive and determination to succeed;- Physically robust;- Experience of being self-reliant;- Reactions to social discipline;- Experience of and reaction to regimentation and routine;- Knowledge and experience of Army life;- Motivation to join the Army;- Personal circumstances.This list is not exhaustive and there will be other areas that the Army will be assessing you on during the interviews and written tests. In order to provide you with a greater understanding of what is required I will now explain one particular area in detail.Personal turnoutThe Army are looking for you to be smartly dressed when you attend the Armed Forces Careers Officer (AFCO), the Army Development and Selection Centre (ADSC) and during your interview. They also want to see that you have made an effort to present yourself positively. When you attend the careers office, whether it is for an interview or a careers presentation, always make sure you wear a formal outfit such as a suit or shirt and tie. Whilst this is not essential it will allow you to score higher in the area of 'personal turnout'.Many people will stroll into the careers office wearing jeans and trainers. Make an effort to stand out for the right reasons and this certainly will work in your favour. Those people who turn up to the Armed Forces Careers Office dressed untidy and unwashed will score poorly. Throughout the duration of the guide I will make reference to the importance of dressing smart and making the effort to present yourself in a positive, motivated and professional manner. Tips for scoring high in personal turnout- Make sure your shoes are clean and polished;- Shirt, trousers and tie for males and a smart formal outfit for females;- Ensure your clothes are ironed and not creased;- Work on your personal hygiene and overall appearance. Make sure your nails are clean!- Stand tall and be confident;- Don't slouch in the interview chair.It is worth taking the time to understand each of the other elements too as this will enable you to score very high marks and therefore have many more career options in the Army available to you.
