How To Set Yourself Up For A Successful Candle Making Project

Any candle making project has much more chance of success if you are organised and set up properly before you start.

Being organized can make all the difference when it comes to your candle making craft. The way to make sure that you have the best chance of succeeding is to make sure that you have everything planned from the beginning to the end.

Candle making is a craft that you cannot walk away from in the middle of melting wax, so be organised before you start. You can't go running off to find a spoon or a particular fragrance once you have started melting wax, and most definitely you can't get on the phone and forget about the wax on the stove.

If you really want the best results with your candle making it is a good idea to have everything laid out and ready to go before you start. Before you start you need to have decided what shapes you want, what molds you will pour into, what color you will use and what candle making fragrance that you wish to use. When I first started candle making I was advised to switch the phone to answer phone before I started melting wax and I found this to be very useful advice.

Preparing for your candle making project

I have found it very useful for any craft, and especially candle making is to have a check list so that each time you start your hobby you will know that you have everything out that you need. You definitely don't want to be getting to the coloring stage for example, and not have your color nearby. Little problems can very quickly become big problems if you are not organised so you want to take steps to eliminate them right from the start with a check list.

When doing candle making you have three quite separate work stations.

1. Firstly the preparation area where you will chip and weigh your wax before melting. This does not need to be a large area but it is best if it is near the stove where you will be melting your wax. The wax is weighed because it is the weight of the wax that determines the amount color and candle making fragrance that may be used.

2. Then there is the area where you will be melting the wax. You need to have your melting pot in this area and all the tools you will be using when melting the wax - the thermometer, whisk, any additives, color and scents, plus any other utensils you will be using.

3. The last area to set up is the cooling area. This is an area where you leave the wax to cool in the molds so you must be able to leave the candle making molds in place and untouched. Candles do need to cool in their own time for the best results, so make sure your cooling area is not being hit by sunlight or air conditioning in any way.

Candle making is a hobby with many steps and all of these put together properly will help you make better products so make yourself familiar with them before you start so that you are not half way through the project when you need to know something.

The candle making craft can be a bit risky but if you take all the right precautions you should come up with the results you want without any major problems. Should you spill candle wax on the floor immediately wipe it up immediately with newspaper because it does dry quickly and become very slippery.

If you have set up your candle making areas designated and set up before you start there is much more chance of eliminating accidents and potential problems along the way.
