, I did it and here are three steps that work. To improve your chances of kicking the habit, you need set your goal in concrete and get help by collecting all the information you can about successful programs. Some of this information is right here. Remember, our Surgeon General has said: "Smoking cessation represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives." and should be incentive help us with the goal.

After trying to kick the habit "Cold Turkey" several times and failing, I went to my doctor and to check on accepted medicines to decrease withdrawal symptoms and lessen the urge to smoke. He prescribed Nicotine gum and I started on that program but the urge to smoke was still very strong and I was faltering so I switched to using the nicotine patch. I was still having cravings to smoke.

That's when I found the new NOXO Smoking Control balm. This is a salve that you apply by rubbing a small amount under your nostrils. The affect is immediate! My urge to smoke was GONE. Somehow your sense of smell controls tobacco cravings. Now I still use the patch but when I got a longing to smoke I apply a bit of the balm and I'm at ease and not smoking.

Give yourself a date to quit on, 2 to 4 weeks from now and check the time day by day. Write down your own reasons for quitting. Keep this list handy so you can look at it when you feel the need to smoke. Just before your quit date, get rid of all of your cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays.

2. Make a List of Your Reasons to Stop Smoking

Here were mine:

Bad Breath

Bad Smell of Clothes

Cost of Smoking

Persistent Cough

Reduced Athletic Ability

Risk of Second-Hand Smoke to Friends and Family

Stained Teeth

Ask your doctor to help you develop a plan for quitting smoking. He or she can give you telephone contacts (1.800.784.8669), or self-help resources that can help. Your doctor may also recommend a local quit smoking program. Tell all your friends and family that you are quitting and ask for their help. Be sure to reward yourself for as your stopping smoking progresses. I used the money saved by not smoking to buy a new TV.

Now that I am smoke free I am very proud of the achievement. It was the single most difficult thing I have ever done in my life and definitely the most important from a health stand point. If you are a smoker, QUIT, you will be forever blessed.
