How Using Cordless Lawn Mowers Can Make Your Life So Much Simpler
In recent years, with developments in rechargeable battery technology, the cordless lawn mower has become increasingly popular. But, what is wrong with the traditional gas powered mower, or indeed corded electric models? After all, they have served us well for many years.
Let's discuss first the downside of gas powered lawn mowers. Obviously, you will need to have a supply of gasoline, which of course need to be stored safely in a suitable can. If you have a gas powered lawn mower then you will know how messy it can be topping it up with fuel. You will also need oil as you will need to top up oil levels from time to time.
Then there is starting. Usually this means using a pull start, and how quickly and easily it will start will vary. The first few times at the beginning of the mowing season can be very frustrating as many mowers will just refuse to start without a great deal of pulling on the starter.
One of the great advantages of the gas mower is that you are not limited in respect of lawn size and you are not tied to be being close to your home while you are mowing.
With corded electric lawn mowers you have none of the hassle and inconvenience of having to deal with gas and oil canisters and starting is considerably easier. However, the major downside is having to deal with the electric cable. Your first consideration in this respect is safety, i.e. you have to keep a constant eye on where your cable is to make sure that you do not accidentally cut through it. The other issue is the limitation it places on you as to how far you can actually go from your power supply, so it is only really suitable for small yards.
Cordless lawn mowers overcome the hassles and mess associated with gas powered models with none of the same limitations of their corded cousins. Previously a problem with them has been in relation to the ability of the battery to hold a charge long enough to cut large areas. However, modern cordless lawn mowers will generally cut up to a third of an acre with a single charge. If your yard is larger than that then one way of overcoming this is to buy a model with a removable battery, then buy another battery. That way once the charge on one battery is depleted, then you simply swap them over giving you another third of an acre's worth of mowing.
Overall, cordless lawn mowers are a worthwhile investment as you certainly have none of the mess and inconvenience of a gas powered model, but with none of the limitations of a corded model.
