Mastery of anything only comes with practice. The same is true of household organizing. If you want your home to get organized and stay that way, you will need to make it part of your routine. So how can you do that? Where do you start?
Your first task is to decide which room you will take on first. Which room is in the most need of organizing? Which room would give you more peace of mind and more time in your day if it were organized?
That room is the best place to start. Think about what in the room needs to be organized. What are the trigger points in this room? What causes pain, annoyance, irritation, arguments in this room? Start with the worst areas of the room and make a plan for how you will organize them.
Decide on how much time you will spend on household organizing in that room. Does it need 30 minutes a day for 5 days to initially get it organized? Then figure out how much time it will take to keep it organized. Do you need to devote 5 minutes every day to that room in order to keep it organized?
Here is where mastery comes in. It is not enough to just organize a room and then forget about it. Because what will happen is that it will go back to the exact same way that it was in a matter of days or weeks. You have to devote time to keeping it organized and you have to schedule that into your day. So you have to keep practicing organizing and make it part of your routine.
