The domain name is like the number by the front door of a house. It distinguishes the house from all the other houses on the block and makes it easy for visitors to locate it. Your domain name points to the location where your site is hosted, allowing people to easily find it.

Many hosting companies also provide domain name registration, so you can take care of both needs in a single transaction. Your domain name can be the name of your business or a general phrase geared towards the industry or niche you are serving. You want to choose a domain name that is fairly easy to remember and which is general enough to cover everything you want to accomplish with your website.
