How to Market Your Business Without Spending Big Money
If you've tried marketing your Business before you'll know that it is easy to lose money trying to get new customers to come and buy from you. If you are new to Business and haven't experienced this yet then you would be wise to take these words of warning "Spending more money does not mean getting more customers"This may seem a bit obvious but yet to this day people think if I spend $10000 advertising I must get at least 1000 new customers and trust me Business does not work like this.I will attempt to show you some of the more cost effective ways of marketing your products and Business. However this does not mean that you should disregard spending a bit of money when you have carefully researched and planned" the marketing method.
PR and Advertising
One of the best ways to ensure that your business is seen as professional and prompt potential customers to buy or at least make an inquiry is to take Public Relations seriously. Probably the best way to do this for a small business is by choosing the Business name very carefully, Making business cards with a unique logo and training staff (or just yourself) to provide excellent customer service.A Press Release is a very cheap (even free) way of attracting customers that many people don't consider. The trick here is to give the media a story because just hyping a new Business will get you nowhere. This is why it is essential to have a unique selling point (USP) that separates you from any other competitor. If something interesting in the news happens that ties in with your Business use this also as an opportunity to let the press know.
Advertising in newspapers is also a good idea. Depending on your budget I would advice starting locally and taking out a small classified ad on the right hand side page of any newspaper. Research has shown that ads on the right hand side do better.
Direct Mail
When carried out selectively this can be one of the greatest tools for Business growthAnd expansion. Selective use is important because if you advertise to general prospect you won't stand a chance as 99% of your letters will be in the thrash before two seconds of being delivered. The key to success with this kind of advertising is to target your prospects by buying a list of prospects from a respectable broker that will be interested in your products. E.g. don't sell baby clothes to a list of men who subscribed to Sports Illustrated. The likelihood of any of them having a baby is low and even if they had a baby don't you think it would be a better idea to market the mother as your prospect/potential buyer.
Sales Promotion
When you open a Business I would say that you should get some attention by "putting a worm at the end of the hook."Now why would I buy from you when another 100 people sell the same products as you? Maybe if you gave me a free bonus, that would help, or an excellent discount. Whatever the case make sure that there is added value. This is a secret that can make your company big.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions are hard work. However if you know what you are trying to get from an exhibition then it is worth going to a few and you may just find that you can attract a number of customers.Before I tell you some of the benefits that an exhibition can bring (from personal experience I may add) know that you must plan ahead. Ask yourself if the right kind of visitors who may become your clients will be there? Will your competitors be there? If so, can you not afford to show your face?Also assess the timing and the cost. At the end of the day it has to be profitable. This is why it is important to plan not just this but everything you do in Business
