How to grow your own "Gratitude Attitude"

"A what??" I hear you say!

To use the Law of Attraction the books tell us that you need to have a positive outlook on your life, and this can be very difficult if you are coming into this whole area of self improvment for the first time. The books can be full of concepts that are new to most people, after all, if we knew them already, would we feel the need to start looking at self improvement?! And you might be thinking that there are many things wrong in your life at the moment & that is the reason you want to look into this whole area.

Some days it can be difficult to find things to be grateful for, but you just need to start thinking in the right way and it gets a lot easier. Here is a great excercise for beginners:

When you go to bed consider how good it is to be there! think about these questions:

Is it your own bed, in your house? or in a pleasant environment that you have chosen eg a holiday?

If so, you are not away from home, or maybe you are on holiday, both things to be gratefull for. Consider that instead you could be on a business trip when you really needed to be at home, or you could be serving in the armed forces in a harsh & dangerous terrain. Or even in a prison cell.

Are you warm and comfortable in your chosen bed?

so you are probably not homeless, in a hostel or on the streets, or sleeping on a friends sofa.

Are you with a loved one? are your family safe and asleep under your roof?

Are you at home, not sat up watching a dear one ill in hospital, working a night shift or stranded due to travel delays?

Have you had a tough day & now you can finally switch off for a few hours?

Concentrate on how good it feels to be in your own comfortable bed & enjoy the feeling of being lucky, & now remember that feeling.


It's a very simple scenario that we do every day, but now you have learnt how to think positively about your situation. When you get up in the morning apply the principle again & learn to look for the benefits that your day holds and how lucky you are to have that day stretching in front of you. Learn to appreciate the natural beauty around you; set yourself the task of finding one thing that looks, sounds or smells nice every day, and when you find that thing, try to smile. The more often you do this the more you will develop your positive attitude

There is always a positive side to any situation, if you are not a naturally positive peron try to teach yourself to look at things differently until you find that silver lining, then feel grateful. Try to see things in terms of new opportunities instead of closed doors, and always remember that old adage "there is always someone worse off".
