How to have an Efficient Energy Saving House
In today's economy, everyone could do with more money left in their pocket
, so how can you reduce your home energy cost? With just a little effort you can obtain an efficient energy saving house.
Energy is wasted everyday in homes by people not doing some very easy things around their house. Make sure your hot water heater is not set above 60 degrees centigrade or 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Having your thermostat set higher requires adding cold water to lower the temperature of the water when using it.
Look around your house for ways to reduce your use of electric power and assure energy efficiency. How many rooms in your house have the lights on but no one is in the room?
Just like you were told when you were a child, turn the lights off when you leave a room. This is one of the easiest ways to save on your electric bill. Electronic equipment including stereos, TV, various media devices should be turned off when not in use. Keeping these units on standby mode takes a certain amount of electricity. In fact this can add up to be five or ten percent of your home energy consumption. Leaving a microwave plugged in can actually use power even through it is not being used. If you are not operating your microwave for a while consider unplugging it from the outlet. If you are like a lot of other people who keep power to your microwave for the clock in your kitchen, purchase a battery operated clock and use it in a convenient location. A computer left on standby can also utilize more power than when it is in use, so instead of putting your computer on standby by just turn it off and save power and increase the computer monitor's life. You can also allow your monitor to turn off automatically when your computer is without activity. Surprisingly this change alone can result in savings of 50 to 100 dollars a year. Lowering the brightness of your screen is another great way to save energy with your computer. This can also decrease your laptop's battery time. If you have an old CRT monitor replacing it with a LCD monitor can provide a substantial saving of power usage. You can have a new monitor and decrease the energy use approximately 66 percent!
Rethinking how you wash your cloths can provide great energy savings. When you buy a new washing machine make sure it is a front loading machine. Front loading washing machines will provide both water and power savings in comparison to a top loading washing machine. Don't use a dryer to dry your clothes, simply hang them on a line to dry. This is great for your clothes and you will also save energy.
These easy steps will put you in the right direction of an efficient energy saving house. You will have lower energy cost and make the world around you much better as well.
