IMT-CDL, NMIMS-SDL, SCDL get top ranking by Zee Business
Zee Business, the business news channel, has come up with its ranking of Top 10 B-schools offering MBA in Distance Learning mode. The rankings were announced on Friday, March 25, 2011.
The top rank has been given to IMT Center for Distance Learning (IMT-CDL). The subsequent ranks have been given to NMIMS-SDL, Symbiosis School of Distance Learning, IGNOU and Welingkar Institute of Management Development.
The ranks from six to 10 have been given to Amity School of Distance Learning, All India Management Association (AIMA) Sikkim Manipal University: Distance Education, Kurukshetra University and Annamalai University respectively.

IMT-CDL
IMT-CDL or Institute of Management Technology Center for Distance Learning, Ghaziabad was established in 1986. From then onwards, it has seen growth not only in number of students but in the innovation in courses as well. The programs are specially designed for working professionals.
NMIMS-SDL
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies' School of Distance Learning (NMIMS SDL) is an extended arm of the NMIMS University, Mumbai. According to NMIMS SDL, all the programs are flexible and emphasize self paced learning.
Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning
Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning, Pune is one of the most popular options for Distance Learning for the working professionals. At present, SCDL has over 2 lakh students. SCDL mentions that it emphasizes on the development of the institute and the programs according to the latest needs and developments.
IGNOU
Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi is one of the oldest and the most renowned institute of distance learning in India. IGNOU was established in 1985. It is the largest university in the world with over 30 lakh students. IGNOU hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET) initially supported by UNESCO. One of the prominent School in IGNOU is School of Management Studies.
Welingkar Institute of Management Distance Learning
Welingkar Institute of Management - Distance Learning, Mumbai offers part time Distance Learning Diploma as well as Post Graduate Level programs. Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai was established in 1977. Welingkar mentions, "Welingkar has introduced many innovative concepts to make distance learning practical oriented to meet the needs of students who are unable to attend full time classes."
Methodology
The methodology applied by the Zee Business for this ranking was based on a Quantitative Approach, which is conducting face to face interviews with the respondents. The respondents were divided in three broad categories, which were:
Prospective students: Any person working in organizations of repute and who wants to do a distance learning management course in the next one year.
Alumni: Any working professional who has done a distance learning management course, in the last three years, not necessarily from the management institute being ranked.
HR Heads: HR heads of organizations who typically hire from management institutes, were asked about the acceptability of distance learning management courses in general and about their perception of the institutes being ranked in particular.
