IMac 27 Review - The Past,Future and Beyond

IMacs are known to be fast, responsible, and extremely to use and serve as a nice entry point to Apple's Mac OS X ecosystem where you are greeted with a simple setup and elegant design. These all-in-one computers are designed to get casual tasks done quickly such as browsing the Internet or preparing a photo album. System Performance:

Compared to the older iMacs, the iMac 27-inch model literally blows them off the charts. Not only is the processor clock speed higher than the older Core 2 Duo-based systems but the all configurations of the 27-inch model sport quad core processors and the results really show when you perform intensive operations in Adobe Photoshop, Handbrake, Final Cut Pro, and other applications that support multicore processing.

Performance is further enhanced thanks to the refinements of the recent Mac OS X Snow Leopard along with a quick 7200 rpm hard drive and 4 GB of RAM. Both of these components are upgradable so you can go the SSD route or quadruple your amount of memory.

Video and Gaming Performance:

The iMac 27 review doesn't stop here because the video and gaming performance needs a closer look since iMac computers are normally behind when it comes to serious 3D gaming. Fortunately, the iMac 27 is ready to take on huge titles as configurations include the ATI Radeon HD 5670 and 5750 models. The 5750 model gets the 1 GB GDDR5 memory while the former gets half but both still manage to reach smooth frame rates on many games using fairly high settings. You should also be able to use the highest screen resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels. Like the previous generation, these displays use IPS technology and are LED backlight so viewing angles are optimized and color quality is good for professionals to work on graphics.

The GPU also plays a role in getting video encoding tasks done and it works very well with the quad core processor. The iMac 27 review in the video aspect shows that the new GPU is a significant improvement over the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M which is categorized as an entry-level GPU.

Overall Value:

You should be able to get an iMac 27 for about $2,000 which is a bit less compared to the time it was first introduced far before this iMac 27 review. Apple is expected to refresh these models sometime this 2011 but the quad core power still makes this powerful all-in-one ready to handle future applications while costing significantly cheaper than the Mac Pro.
