If Health Is The Best Investment Why Do Sixty Percent Of People Do Not Do Enough Proper Exercise?

When you hear the word investment you generally think about financial investments

. We are taught from an early age that we must save our money and invest it wisely during our working years to ensure our financial security when we are no longer working.

But shouldn't we take the same care and preparation with something that is far more important than money - our health? With all of the information available no one can say that they are not aware of the importance of maintaining our physical strength and fitness.

We all really do know that exercise is good for us, but sometimes our vision gets blurred and we lose track of what is really important and what could really be more important than our health? Without enough vigorous physical movement we cannot have a high quality of life, yet six out of ten adults do not do enough proper exercise

One hundred years ago life was very different in that most people had to be physically active just to do the daily tasks and activities of life. But our modern day lives with our cars and household appliances means we no longer need to exert ourselves in any way to get through the day.

So unless we put back into our lives the vigorous movement that our muscular system needs to stay healthy we have little chance of getting it in our everyday lives. You see this movement is needed to stimulate the release of the growth and repair hormones that keep the body repairing and renewing itself.

Without these hormones the body senses that its strength is no longer needed and starts the downward spiral of decay and deterioration that we used to believe was the aging process. Now we know it is simply caused by not enough muscle building and maintaining activity. Our bodies are not programmed for this lack of movement and release chemicals that signal the body to go into 'shut down' mode.

Building strength can be one of the healthiest things you can do and a great investment in ones health. However, in todays fast-paced, money orientated society; many people spend most of their time trying to accumulate self-wealth instead of self-health.

Yet their focus should really be on what is truly important because, in the long run, it is health that ultimately determines how long one stays employed in the workforce. It also determines whether one can continue to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle or spends their time in doctor's offices trying to sort our health issues.

Just as a diet of low quality food leads to health problems, a diet of inactivity leads to health problems down the track. If you are not moving much now, or your movements are limited to being mainly seated during the day with a bit of light walking around tossed in you are in for some major problems somewhere in the future.

If you are thinking about putting off a proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training for another day, think again and consider the preventable costs of medications, surgeries, doctor visits, and other money spent on disease and poor health.

Exercise is an investment and every moment spent exercising is a long-lasting investment in your health. It can be an investment opportunity that pays you a far greater dividend than any financial investment you could ever make. That old expression 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' could never be truer.
