Important Pointers On Driving Schools And Student Engagement
Driving is a very important skill that is almost mandatory in developed nations
. Once you get a hang of it driving a vehicle it becomes easier, but it is important that you learn the skill properly. The best place to learn this skill is in a driving school. The biggest challenge though is the driving schools and student engagement.
The skills of the instructor add up to almost nothing if the student does not focus on the training sessions. Hence, grabbing then student attention is so vital. A great way to achieve this is to engage the student during the training. Generally, given the mode of instruction, retaining the focus of the student is more challenging in the classroom than on the roads.
As tough as classroom training may be, it is the most important step in driver instruction. A well-coached student in the classroom can think better on the road and make good decisions when presented with emergency or abnormal situations. Collisions are better avoided by students who have a good classroom training background. Unfortunately, it is also the most boring part of the coaching for the student too. But the instructor can make the sessions interesting by engaging the students.
The best way to grab the attention of the student is to get them involved during the classroom. If the instructor keeps coaching without student getting a chance to talk, discuss, ask questions they start to lose interest. Once the interest in the class is lost, there is no knowledge transfer.
Typically interactive sessions are ideal even for the instructor. Once you engage the students and listen to their ideas and thoughts, you can gauge whether they have grasped the concept properly or not. If the student explains or asks pertinent questions then you know he or she has understood, if not you can immediately clarify the concept. This in turn helps you deliver better instruction rather than a monologue without any feedback.
However, the instructor must appreciate that even in an interactive session not all students will participate willingly. In such cases the best way to get the disinterested students involved is to call their names and ask them to pose a question or answer some question. Many times with just this one push the student will get involved and the aim of the instructor is served.
Many times, students themselves may start a discussion that helps clear the doubts better than what the instructor may explain. It all helps as the end goal of a good driving school is to impart the correct knowledge to the students. Besides this can help bring the slower students up to speed faster.
Lastly, the one thing that the instructor must guard against is letting the discussions wander off topic. As students start to discuss there is a good chance that they move away from the actual topic and start discussing something else. An alert instructor must be firm and bring the class back on track.
