Seeing a lighting fixture with an upward and downward streak of light is called sconce while a torchiere is a kind of floor lamp mounted on the wall like a sconce.

They have mostly in red or its equivalent warm colors like yellow and orange, as they are also known to stimulate the appetite. The change in the mode of lights can change the entire decor of the room. Try installing a disco light, then your room will have a party mood in it, a large chandelier on the other hand will give an instant romantic touch to the same room.
