Industrial Automation To Feature In New Factory
Industrial automation is an integral part of modern business and its evidence is everywhere.
One organisation that is set to take advantage of this is Mabey Bridge, which is in the process of implementing control systems.
The company is investing millions of pounds in improving a factory it bought earlier this year at Newhouse Farm Distribution Park in Chepstow.
It is looking to recruit 100 members of staff so it can get to work on fabricating wind turbines on the site.
The facility will be capable of producing turbine towers up to five metres in diameter and 40 metres in length. It is hoped that around 300 turbines will be created over 12-month period.
The first of the workers will begin operation in the facility this month, while more will join in the new year.
Meanwhile, when it is up to full capacity next February, it will have a workforce of 240.
Commenting on the recruitment process, Mabey Bridge managing director Peter Lloyd said: "We are building this factory specifically to service the needs of the renewable energy industry and are looking to appoint skilled workers from the local area.
"As a company best known for its bridge-building expertise, we have a 160-year track record in the engineering industry and a 400-strong workforce committed to high- quality engineering."
Mr Lloyd went on to claim that, once the site is up and running, the firm aims to provide around half the UK's requirement for wind turbine towers.
He added: "We are very excited by our new venture."
Industrial automation and control systems in the renewable energy sector are likely to be in increasing demand as the country moves more towards green sources of energy.
There are already many wind farms situated in various locations around the British aisles and more are in the pipeline.
