The Birth of Voluntary Organizations

Society often gives a birth to those who want to help others. Social help is some kind of a self-actualization for such altruists. But only in the twentieth century the voluntary acquired features of a social phenomenon. In fact, students often choose voluntary as their extracurricular activity. Voluntary actions and youth are deeply connected, and there are lots of voluntary unions organized by youth.

After the World War I in 1920 the first voluntary project was realized. It was in France near Strasbourg. Volunteers, French and German youth, restored destroyed farms. Nowadays voluntary has gained worldwide popularity and recognition.

According to statistics the number of volunteers increased from 80 to 109 million and there are a lot of students among them.

The list of international voluntary unions

There are a lot of voluntary unions:

1.UNV (United National Volunteers)

UN volunteers are subordinate to UNO. UNV deals with stabilization of the world development by means of voluntary ideas advancement. UNO mobilizes volunteers for solving specific practical tasks.

2.SCI (Service Civil International)

This international voluntary organization, instituted in 1920, has 33 departments all over the world. Its mission includes promotion of universal peace ideals, ideas of international tolerance and sympathy, social justice and environmental protection.

3.YAP (Youth Action for Peace)

This youth international organization was established in 1923. It spreads peace and collaboration ideas all over the world and deprecates hot war. YAP has its departments in 15 countries and unites active youth.

4.Alliance (Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations)

Alliance of European voluntary organizations, instituted in 1982, is the center of coordination of European national voluntary organizations.

5.CCIVS (Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service)

Coordinating committee of international voluntary organizations was established in 1948 under the aegis of UNESCO. CCIVS coordinates activities of more than 250 national voluntary organizations in more than 100 countries.
