Intriguing New Findings About Psychic Development
When the subject of psychic development is raised
, there is a line drawn in the sand. On one side are those who have had psychic experiences and believe in them. On the other are the skeptics, who categorically deny that they can happen.
There is still a lot of prejudice surrounding the subject of psychic abilities. As a result, many people who have had psychic experiences keep them to themselves, to avoid being ostracized by their community. They hold respectable positions in society and fear the consequences of admitting that they believe in any kind of paranormal experience. They have good reason to be afraid, having seen the ridicule that public figures are subjected to when they admit to believing in anything related to psychic abilities.
This has been the case throughout time. In medieval times, the witch hunts throughout Europe cost the lives of millions of innocent people. There are some signs that things are changing, though, as scientific evidence mounts, we are learning that psychic powers can be developed and that they are not something that comes from an evil source or are the products of our imaginations. What's more, we are discovering that we all have it in our power to develop these skills.
At least one researcher has used a modern brainwave monitoring device known as an electroencephalograph (EEG) to study psychic phenomena in order to learn more about how it works and how it can be developed. In one experiment, he hooked up a psychic healer to an EEG in one room and her client in another.
Our brains emit electromagnetic signals known as brainwaves. In normal waking consciousness, we operate at the relatively fast beta frequency. When we are calm and meditative, we enter the alpha state. When we are dreaming, we are in theta. In the very slow delta frequency, we are generally in deep sleep. To their surprise, researchers discovered that some individuals are able to remain awake while in the delta range.
In the above mentioned experiment, the healer entered a waking delta state. That was remarkable in itself, but what was even more amazing was the fact that her patient started emitting delta brainwaves minutes after she did. Psychics often say that they need to be "psychically attuned" to their subject in order to effectively read their thoughts or affect a healing. This study demonstrated that in this case, at least, it was literally true.
This sort of "psychic attunement" also accounts for the observation that when highly skeptical researchers get negative results, it's quite possible that their skepticism plays a part in the results. It's as if their psychic energy affects the outcome of the test. This hypothesis explains why different researchers get such radically different results. It's not as if the "believers" are conducting their research with any less rigor than the "nonbelievers." It's that in the one case, they are facilitating the process, while in the other, they are interfering with it!
Solid research like this has given researchers a tool to work with. The dissemination of this information has led to some changes in the way many teachers of psychic development work. They now use the terminology of science to guide their students to guide them into the deep states of theta relaxation that is the frequency most associated with psychic phenomena such as healing and psychokinesis. More and more people are discovering that psychic development is possible for all of us once we learn to enter this or the delta state of consciousness at will.
