Introducing Toyota's New Entune System
Toyota's new Entune system, will be offered in select vehicles this year, and works through a driver's mobile phone to offer entertainment, navigation, and information services through voice recognition and in-vehicle controls. This system not only simplifies the interaction for drivers, but also offers a safer way for consumers to use the technology available to them while driving. To ensure that almost all customers who wish to add Entune to their Toyota are able to use it, the program will be compatible with the majority of mobile phones with a data plan. And it will not take much to get connected to this new technology. First, consumers must download the Toyota Entune mobile application to their Bluetooth capable phone; then they will pair that phone with their Toyota vehicle. After that, customers are set up to access the large variety of content available to Entune users. The system is also wirelessly upgradeable, so applications will never become outdated.
One of the most unique features of the Entune multimedia system is the ability to connect mobile apps to the car. Entune will debut Bing, which continuously keeps navigation up to date, and will also be compatible with applications such as OpenTable and MovieTickets.com. This allows the driver to make restaurant reservations or order movie tickets while in the car, and then send the destination to their navigation. The system will also offer real time traffic, weather, fuel prices, sports, and stocks.
The multimedia system also allows Toyotas to play music in more ways than just the traditional radio and CD player. Toyota is partnering with Clear Channel Radio to incorporate iheartradio into their vehicles, which will give consumers access to over 750 local radio stations, HD stations celebrity-hosted channels, local traffic reports, and exclusive videos. Drivers will also have the ability to customize their own radio through Pandora and listen to XM satellite stations. However, for those who enjoy traditional radio, the Entune system will still offer the usual AM/FM stations, as well as a USB port to connect portable media players.
Another feature of Entune is Safety Connect. This system provides safety features such as Automatic Collision notification, Emergency Assistance, Roadside Assistance, and Stole Vehicle Location Assistance. When combined with Entune and available apps, the unique and comprehensive features of Safety Connect are even more powerful, giving drivers an added sense of security. The voice recognition software offered by Entune also provides peace of mind, as it allows drivers to communicate with their vehicle without memorizing special commands.
Although the Entune Multimedia system has not been officially launched, it has already begun receiving awards. At the Consumer Electronics Show, it was awarded the "Best of CES" award in the Car Tech category, as well as the Popular Mechanics Editor's Choice Award. While Toyota has not yet publicized which vehicles the system will be available on, they have announced that it will be an optional feature.
