Investigating Voip Reseller Opportunities For The Entrepreneur
The voice over Internet business wants to take control of your phone
, and there are a lot of people out there willing to help it. For entrepreneurs looking for investments, the VoIP reseller opportunities are abundant. Using the Internet to make telephone calls is the new, up and coming, smart thing to do.
If you haven't heard of voice over Internet protocol, or VoIP, you must not have been anywhere near computers for the last several years. VoIP is the use of the Internet for making telephone calls. As an alternative to the traditional connections through the telephone company, people are beginning to see the benefits of using the Internet for voice communications. Contact can even be maintained through the use of routing via the same wireless networks used to connect your home computers to each other.
When a call is placed through the Internet, the person's voice is changed from analog to digital. It is then transformed into Internet protocol and transmitted over Internet lines. There are different types of protocol, such as narrowband and high fidelity stereo. You may have heard terms such as voice over broadband or Internet telephony making the rounds at the office. VoIP is what they're talking about.
For the savvy entrepreneur, opportunities abound if they are looking to get into the telecommunications business. Before venturing into deep water however, they better know what VoIP is all about and how it operates, its benefits and shortcomings. If they don't know, they should be ready, willing and able to hire someone who does.
The biggest benefit of VoIP is the low cost when compared to traditional phone service. It's one reason many medium-to-small businesses are quickly switching over to VoIP. It isn't necessary to pay the public telephone company for phone lines. Companies are already installing Internet for the computers and VoIP works over the Internet. You get two for the price of one. It cost less in initial outlay and in the day-to-day operation.
Operating costs on a daily basis are also reduced because VoIP is billed differently than normal telephone. Whereas the telephone company charges a rate for each minute, VoIP charges by the megabyte. Instead of paying for time, you pay by the amount of information being transmitted. That's a lot less expensive given the speed with which data is up and downloaded.
On the down side of VoIP is the ever-present chance of power outages. When the power goes out, so does the Internet and of course, so does the VoIP. Nearly all of us have sat in a darkened office at one point without a lot to do because we're unable to use our computers. At least we could make telephone calls, but with VoIP that won't be an option. There are businesses that are taking the precaution of implementing emergency power back up systems to avoid this lose of communications.
A disturbing problem with VoIP is that dialing 911 for an emergency may not get you the help you need. The IP address of the computer can be transmitted, but it's quite possible that the IP address connected to the call isn't the location of the emergency. The IP address could be a registered corporate network located hundreds of miles away. Without the hard wiring of traditional telephone lines, the physical address can be unobtainable. Unlike cell phones, VoIP connections don't broadcast GPS locations.
These and other issues need to be solved in order for VoIP to gain further acceptance, but so far it's doing pretty well. There are questions such as loss of data during transfer, national security issues and general Internet security that need to be hashed out. There are a lot of people in the industry working hard to get these problems resolved.
If you're a super entrepreneur and you think you're ready to jump on the VoIP bandwagon there are a lot of businesses ready to accommodate you. Be sure you've done your homework on this fairly new technology and know what you're getting into. When you're ready, simply get on your laptop and search for VoIP reseller opportunities, see what pops up and go shopping.
