Traditionally the American dream is to get a nice house, nice cars, and have a family. There is nothing wrong with these goals, but some of them may have become somewhat impractical. The expense to do these things in today's world involves high costs, causing families to have to take on two full time jobs just to make ends meet.

The cost of housing isn't the leading cause of these issues, but it is one of them. The average home today is much larger than the average family home thirty years ago. The expenses to pay for, keep up, and pay taxes on larger properties is a cost that many are struggling to bear. One option that could become normal is to outsource one's house.

While the concept might seem strange it's a valid one. Just like one might outsource their cleaning to a maid, one can outsource the space in their home to another location. A common example is the home gym. While home gyms do offer convenience, the reality is that they take up a whole room in the house which is going to cost extra time and money to clean and maintain. One can buy a gym membership and outsource that part of their house to another location like the local gym in the area. This allows a family to not have to have an extra room for gym purposes.

At some point in time, people will have to accept the fact that the size of homes cannot forever increase and that having one that is more rationally sized is acceptable. Using other locations like cafes for offices, gyms to work out in, and parks to play in should be encouraged, as they give advantages without the extra burdens in home costs. The point is to find practical solutions to home sizes that actually meet needs, versus having the biggest place possible.
