Is The Desktop Computer Dead?

As laptops, tablets, and notebooks take over Im left to wonder whats in store for the personal computer

. Many of the brands heavily associated with the desktop computer have already taken ahead financially as people seem to be moving more towards mobile computing devices. Decades ago it seemed as though the desktop computer was firmly entrenched as the standard in homes across America. However, a civilization becomes faster paced and more mobile people have been forced to adjust and shift to the laptops, tablets and notebooks mentioned earlier. Does this mean that the desktop computer is going to become antiquated piece of equipment and take its place alongside the typewriter, or will it have a resurgence and always remain a viable computing option?

During the mid and late nineties there was a constant stream of commercials on television advertising several different Brands of desktop computers. As time went on some of these companies started to move more towards laptop computers and everyone seemed to start to see the value and a mobile computing experience. It seems as though the tide continued shift to the early part of the last 10 years and now mobile computing is at an all time high in terms of popularity. I personally cannot think of the last person I know who bought a desktop computer but I can think of several people who recently bought laptops, tablets and smart phones to take their computing on the road with them.

I think that the era of the desktop computer is probably coming to an end unless some major advance in technology takes place that can only be utilized at a fixed home computer. If this doesnt happen what really is there to keep desktop computers around? If you do any kind of work on your computer you will more than likely want to take that work with you two your actual job if need be, and the same thing goes for students who want to take their computer to class. Desktop computers just dont offer the same flexibility that laptop computers do and so its very hard to imagine them retaining their place as an important part of computing. While advancement seemed a common almost daily basis for portable computers, desktop computers seem to be languishing behind as the tide turns. While desktop computers did serve an important function it seems that the sun is setting on the era of the desktop, but I must admit I think that we will all be better off in the end with our portable computers.
