Is Wow Addictive?

After playing World of Warcraft just once you understand the pull it has over gamers and get a feel for the thrilling excitement that it can offer you

. With a myriad of creatures, quests and paths to ultimate fame and fortune within the game it is no wonder World of Warcraft has become the most popular MMORPG ever created.

When you play World of Warcraft you often find it difficult to stop. The path to levelling up your character takes you through grinding and questing and leaves you wanting to continue moving up. Due to the enthralling nature of this game it is therefore somewhat addictive.

I'm sure you have had times in your own life when you have become very focused on one thing or another to the exclusion of almost everything else. Hopefully though this never turned into a full scale addiction but if you have experienced such a thing then you will have an idea of how easy it is for some people to get addicted to a computer game.

The average player, who engages with other players in the online fantasy realm of world of warcraft, does not spend much more time there than they would on any other game. However, of the 11 million active players many do spend a lot of time playing. It may seem strange but addiction to World of Warcraft is mainly an adult problem because children are protected from spending too much time online in Azeroth by parental controls.

An internal timer in the game works with parental controls that allows any parent or guardian to restrict access to the game once a certain amount of time has been spent in the online world.

Restricting access to a child's online WoW account is often a good idea as people who develop an addiction to World of Warcraft can sit in front of their computer playing for twenty-four hours straight!

It is never a good idea to become addicted to anything but when it is a computer game all aspects of your life can suffer. Some people have lost their jobs, lost their relationships and been unable to support themselves properly. Many of these people have to eventually seek addiction counselling to help them eliminate their Warcraft addiction.

Even though such sever and extreme cases are extremely small they do still occur - which is, perhaps, not surprising when 11,000,000 people actively play the game. The truth about these people however is that they probably are additive by nature. There are certain personality types and people who are born with (or develop) addictive-like personality disorders. These people will become addicted to whatever they do and will most probably create stress and hardship for themselves regardless of which addiction they develop.

The truth is World of Warcraft is just a game - albeit a great game. However, unlike other Pc games this game has been shown to help people to learn real world, usable skills like team building, team work, leadership and many others.

If you use World of Warcraft properly and the way it was designed to be used you will have hours of fun and perhaps even learn some life skills in the process.
