It may seem like a monumental task, and to be fair it's not going to be easy. With a serious commitment of time and effort though, the average parent is more than capable of providing a first-class education to their child. This general overview of the subject will help you get a basic idea of what the average homeschooling program requires and entails.

First, understand that you don't have to start completely from scratch. There are some great resources online where things like generic lesson plans and schedules can be downloaded and used as a sort of template, which can tailored to suit the child's needs. Keep in mind that the curriculum will naturally be very different between younger and older children. When looking for materials for your curriculum like books or worksheets, keep this in mind. A younger child's day might focus more on reading, spelling, and handwriting, while a young adult would be more concerned with higher mathematical concepts and sciences.

Keep in mind that one can try homeschooling temporarily, perhaps for just a year to see if it's something worth fully committing to. Even a single school year, though, demands much from the parent. One must be prepared to either be jobless, work out of the home, or within a very limited time frame as much of their time will be spent teaching. This may not be a sustainable option for everyone, but it is key that enough time be made available each day solely for learning. For many single parents it may not even be feasible to pursue homeschooling because of these constraints.
