Certified nursing assistants are important team members of any organizations that are treating sick

, injured and people with different age, race and ethnicity. Their contribution is essential to take care of the patients hospitalized in the setting. More than the doctors, nurses and family members, they stay with the patients for most of the time. Certified nursing assistants are the professionals who directly work for patients and assist the team of doctors and nurses.

Assisting patients is one of the crucial jobs of a CNA. Feeding patients who are very sick and cannot eat on their own is a responsibility of the nursing assistants. They have to ensure that patients have eaten enough to take the medicine for recovery. At times, they also have to reduce the intake of the food where the patients have asked to control their weight. Keeping a support at the back of the patients so that they can eat is as well a concern of the assistants.

The nursing assistants have to read the treatments prescribed by the doctors. This is important and there should not be any scope of error since it could spoil the whole course of treatment. It is the duty of the assistants to administer injections and medicine as prescribed by the doctors.

Patients suffering from infection demands extra care and attention. The nursing assistants have to help in controlling the spread of infection. They have to follow doctor's instructions while applying medicines in the affected area of the patients.

Assisting the nurses and doctors by observing the patients recovery is another responsibility of nursing assistants. If the patients are reacting positively to a particular medicine and therapy, the assistants should inform the doctors about how the patients are recovering to the treatment.

Following safety code is also important while doing the nursing assistant jobs. Since assistants are working directly with the patients, the chances of being infected with disease are higher. Therefore, following a proper protocol is essential while working in the healthcare industry.

Other duties of CNA assistants include monitoring the condition of the patients, communicating with family members and the staff about the patient's recovery, and providing emotional support.

Timely communication with the healthcare team is very essential. Even a delay of few seconds in passing on the information to the team can prove critical for the patients. Before leaving the shift, the assistants have to record their activities performed in the shift so that their attending replacing the shift can read and work accordingly.
