Job interview preparation
To pass a job interview without cold sweats, is possible. To have some positive stress is quite normal and even exciting, but you should be able to sleep the previous night. After a winning resume, and an engaging letter often follows a job interview. An interview is a gateway to a new job, we must be able to go through it without a few nights of insomnia, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and sweaty palms. Believe me, it can even be a pleasant life experience.
FEARS
Your worst enemies during a job search situation, are your fears. Know that your fears are (independent and autonomous) in that they have nothing to do with your skills or your ability to land a job during an interview. Your fears are caused by your lack of recognition of your worth, your lack of confidence in yourself and your insecurity. Compare your potential with objectivity against the requirements of the position and make an effort to remain rational. Avoid having a too demanding look on your abilities, experiences and skills: Nobody is perfect, yet so many people are working . . .
EXPECTATIONS
Also avoid, asking yourself because you stubbornly want this job at all costs: what is it, that I can do to convince them to hire me. By doing so, you are imposing a huge pressure upon yourself. If you fit the desired profile, they will realize it. If you do not fit their profile, something else will happen and that may even be better for you. A different job offer, or not hiring you at all, which is not the end of the world. Enjoy the interview as a new experience which allows you to talk about yourself in all sincerity. The employer is looking for a certain profile, help him to discover if you fit this profile. You do not have to transform yourself in order to obtain the job at all cost. This expectation skews your spontaneity. Let us take a different approach at the preparation of a job interview.
KNOW WHO YOU ARE
The key: Know who you are. Here are seven landmarks. Clarify your:
1. Skills
2. Knowledge
3. Personal qualities
4. Personality traits
5. requirements (hourly, salary, etc.)
6. Values, ways of thinking
7. Limitations or weaknesses
The answers will help you hold the bulk of the interview and to show great confidence. Omitting those steps will create evasive answers and cold sweats. Employers needs your abilities to realize their objectives. Do not underestimate yourself, but do not put too much either, it might be detected by the interviewer. An interesting advantage: Is to show the employer that you have quite a lot of knowledge already about his organization. Go to his website and also check the sites of his competitors: this will give you a good idea of his products, his customer services and competitions. Those information's will help you during subsequent interviews. Be curious.
THE RIGHT WORDS
Of course, we must find the proper words to describe what is written above. See if its complete and if it really describes who you really are and what you really want? Practice. Talk about it to someone you know. See if its complete and if it really describes what you are and what you want. You know, there is room for (but yes), and (or) and other nuances. If what you say seems contradictory, you can explain why to your recruiter. In fact, your cover letter, your resume and interview must repeat the same speech. Practice your monologue, it describes your profile. Interview questions are planned to get those answers. You just have to adapt to the style of the interviewer. Pass a few interviews that do not interest you to practice to speak about yourself with ease.
THE PITFALLS
Oh, the scenarios! Be sincere, what would you truly do today if that situation becomes an actual situation? Say it. You completely ignore what you would do? Say it without shame. Some trick questions are used to assess your authenticity. You can also say that you would seek advice from a colleague, a good friend, or you would make a search if a period of reaction was possible. In case of having to act immediately, please mention that you hope that the employer provides training for this kind of short situation. And the killer question: What are your weaknesses? Take advantage of your preparation to recognize them. Sometimes those weakness can be admitted as such, by stating that they are not extreme. Otherwise, improve these weakness and find another more interesting answer. Forget (I'm a perfectionist ...). Do you need to improve your English, learn a 2 Nd or a 3 rd language, or master a new software? Are you shy on a new job? Test the reactions of those around you.
THEIR CHOICES
Could you perceived yourself as the person who may be chosen as the ideal candidate for the job? Who are the other candidates? Also, there is a large part of subjectivity in a job interview and there is nothing you can do about it. Describe who you are and what you know, answer honestly and in some cases, with some strategy, those all the things that you can do. The rest is up to the interviewer. Accept this fact and be yourself. Assume who you are and know how to say it is the key that will get you to have a good interview and to be selected for a position which really suits you. If you are well prepared, you will enjoy describing who you are and what you can do to your recruiter without cold sweats.
