Jon Schneider Got Liposuction

," most people think instinctively of women, a growing number of men in the public eye are undergoing the surgery (which is also called lipoplasty and suction lipectomy). Jon Schneider is one of these men. 47 year old Jon Schneider is an actor best known for his star role in "The Dukes of Hazzard" and for his portrayal of Clark Kent's earthly father in the popular superhero show "Smallville." He has also been a guest star on Nip/Tuck.

Jon Schneider has been fairly candid regarding his surgery. In an interview with "Extra," he openly admitted having undergone the surgery. "I went the liposuction route a couple of years ago," Jon said. "I did 1000 sit-ups and nothing was happening. The result was great! It hurt like hell!"

Schneider certainly isn't alone in his choice to get lipoplasty. A growing number of men are beginning to undergo this and other surgical treatments. Lipectomy is the most popular cosmetic surgery among men, and an increasing number of men are choosing to undergo this procedure. Current estimates suggest that men represent somewhere between ten and twenty percent of all lipoplasties performed in America. While this isn't a huge number percentage-wise, it does mean that somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 American men undergo the surgery every year.

This represents a change in men's opinions about cosmetic surgery and beauty. Not too long ago, liposuction and other cosmetic surgeries were viewed as entirely a woman's arena. Few men underwent cosmetic procedures, and the ones who did were unwilling to admit that they had had work done. Now, that seems to be changing. Surveys show a rising male interest in surgical cosmetic enhancement. According to some surveys, the level of male interest in some areas of the world may meet or even exceed that of women.

Certainly a number of factors are going into this increased male interest in lipoplasty and other cosmetic procedures. Some of these may include the changing of world-wide gender norms. As sexual roles begin to be more fluid and as women move into roles that have traditionally been seen as male, it is no surprise to see that men's roles are also shifting. This interest in cosmetic enhancement could represent a part of that shift. It is also possible that this increased interest comes because of the increased exposure of boys and men to idealized images of male fitness and beauty in the media.
