Keyword Ranking Tool - More On The Four Golden Rules
Keyword research is an important part of any online marketing endeavor
. If done right, it will lead to sustained profitability for your website. The New Methodology of Keyword Research using Four Golden Rules is what I share in this article. By using the Market Samurai Keyword Research Tool (MSKRT), you can easily and authoritatively identify your "golden nugget" keywords.
The essence of this New Methodology in searching for your "money words" involves starting with a large pool of keyword phrases and then screening out the inappropriate ones, using the MSKRT. The Noble Samurai-- makers of the MSKRT application have developed the Four Golden Rules as a means of identifying the best keywords for any niche. Using four elements--not two, as what Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) and similar approaches recommend. These Nobel Samurai experts (based in Australia) espouse the use of four criteria elements: Traffic, Relevance, Competition and Commerciality.
Traffic. The first Golden Rule requires ample Traffic. An important fact to keep in mind is that Searches do not necessarily equal Traffic. Obtaining a top ranking in Google doesn't guarantee that people will click to go to your website.
Knowing how many searches are made on a particular keyword is not enough. You have to reconcile that potential traffic that results when keyword searches are made, end up being distributed among the results returned. With the top ranking site receiving about 42.1% of the searches made. This means that if your keyword gets (say)-- 5,000 searches per month; that certain keywords can realistically expect only 2,105 (42.1% of 5,000) clicks monthly-- maximum.
The problem with KEI and other similar approaches is that it simply takes the 5,000 figure and erroneously makes you expect that you can achieve that many clicks per month. MSKRT does not do this. But instead makes use of the the factored 2,105 value; which indeed, makes more sense. It is the maximum traffic you can garner-- if you are the top ranked site.
The MSKRT reports values in terms of daily units. In the above example, this is translated into 167 (5000 divided by 30) for Searches per day- Total and 70 (2,105 divided by 30) for SEO Traffic- SEOT per day. It is actually nice to reconcile that MSKRT talks in a uniform language and reports all values in terms of daily units.
Relevance. Golden Rule two mandates Relevance. One of the immediate goals of Keyword Research is to target keywords that will give your website a top ranking in the search engines.
Some keywords will yield more traffic than others. However, if you choose keywords that are irrelevant, then people who visit your website will most likely end up being disinterested in what they find and end up not buying anything from you.
After generating keyword phrases, weed out the ones that are not related to your niche. You can further streamline your list by targeting phrases containing a particular word, or by specifying a desired phrase length. (MSKRT has a number of features to help you do this.)
Because at times, the list you generate can include phrases where the words are in the wrong order or are odd word combinations. The Noble Samurai have "invented" something which they call a Phrase to Broad Match Ratio (PBR) filter which will do the task for you. You can eliminate these misleading keyword phrases by simply using the correct PBR value.
Competition. Whether or not your website gets top ranking also depends on competition. Other websites will be vying for top ranking as well, and you need to assess the amount and strength of your competition regarding the keywords you target.
There are two ways to improve your chances of ranking higher against your competitors.
The first is by targeting keywords that have a lesser number of competing web pages. Usually, keywords using industry-specific terms have less web pages on them; so take the time to look at the terms specific to your content and target market.
The other aspect of competition to consider is the strength of competition. Search engines deploy algorithms that determine the ranking of websites for specific keywords; and for some keywords, the competing web pages are more highly-optimized and are thus become stronger in terms of competition.
MSKRT gives the number of websites that mention your target keyword, which indicates the amount of competition. Armed with this information, targeting keywords with less and weaker competition can then increase your chances of obtaining a better ranking.
Commerciality. Whenever a keyword query is made on Google, two sets of search results come up. The first set are the organic results and the second is the set for paid advertisements (transacted with Google AdWords)-- where Google is paid each time someone clicks on their link.
The commerciality of a keyword is estimated by what Google advertisers are currently paying for on particular keywords. For example, if an advertiser is willing to pay $1 to get a click for a certain keywords, then that amount is what MSKRT takes as the commercial value of that specific keyword.
The first three Rules may get your website a top ranking and generate a lot of traffic. But considering Commerciality in your keyword research is vital for keywords that can make you earn more.
