Know What the Military Knows in Self Defense

You would be hard-pressed to find another group more highly trained than the military

. They are trained in every type of combat that you could possibly think of. And for years, they were the only ones who had access to this disciplined style of training. But those days are over, as military self defense tactics have now been made available to the public. Self defense tactics vary greatly depending on who you are talking to, but it is generally assumed that the military have the best of the best. One of the most common and effective tactics are moves that can be lumped into the category of hand to hand combat. Although many of our fights on the battlefield are now done from far away with weapons such as guns and hand grenades, soldiers still need to be prepared to fight with their bare hands if need be.

The skills that are taught in military self defense are the exact same skills that could save your life if you were ever confronted by a violent criminal. The entire premise of self defense is to protect yourself by overpowering or outsmarting your attacker. And with these simple tactics, you will quickly be able to do both. Anyone with a military background can tell you that your state of mind is just as important as your physical state. If you aren't mentally prepared for battle, then you won't be much good to anyone else, no matter how strong you are. And that is precisely why self defense tactics begin in the mind.

Let's face it: criminals aren't always the smartest people around. They tend to prey on what they perceive to be an easy target. So by simply ensuring that you don't come off as an easy target, you drastically reduce your chances of ever being attacked in the first place. And this doesn't take weeks of training to master. It is simply a state of heightened awareness of your surroundings and the people in them. It is something that you can practice every time you leave the house so soon enough it will just be second nature.

Being aware has a number of different components. Of course, you should be aware of all sights and sounds that are out of the ordinary. But also, ensure that your mind is not elsewhere while out in public. If you have your head buried in your cell phone texting away, a criminal will see a very easy target. You won't even notice them coming up behind you as they grab your purse, wallet or anything else. But if you are in public and absolutely need to send a text, make sure that your back is against a wall. It may sound like a paranoid way to live but in fact it becomes second nature pretty quickly. And when you consider the alternative of getting beaten, mugged and robbed, it really isn't too troublesome to get used to.
