Leadership Qualities - Grow Your Own Leaders
Organizations need leaders at every level
Organizations need leaders at every level. Many choose to seek out existing employees with specific leadership qualities so that they can be trained and nurtured. If your company has made the decision to grow your own leaders, there are several traits to look for. Leaders have a clear vision of what needs to be done, how to get there and what success looks like. They understand that to achieve this vision, they must be able to accurately and passionately communicate it to others. Leaders work with single-minded focus to bring the vision into fruition. This sets an example for others to follow their lead.
Leadership qualities include adhering to their own ethical code and high standards of quality, without fail. Leaders with such integrity can be trusted to do what is right, regardless of the circumstances. This trust engenders loyalty and inspires their followers. They are viewed as approachable and exert tremendous influence on team members and co-workers alike. When guided by their own moral compass, they are seen as emotionally centered and focused. They understand that they must spend whatever time is necessary to accomplish their goals in the time allotted. This dedication inspires those around them and opens the door on an opportunity to achieve something great.
Successful leaders give credit where credit is due and spread the word far and wide. Even though projects are assigned to and completed by a team, leadership qualities ensure that individual contributions are celebrated. These same leaders also assume personal responsibility for failures and take action to correct them. This results in a team that works as hard for their leader as they do for themselves, bringing the team closer together working for towards a common goal. Though each team has a leader, those that find the most success understand that they are part of the team, not separate from it.
They listen to new ideas and are open to new perspectives, even if they are not an accepted part of everyday practice. Leaders exhibit the ability to suspend judgment in favor of keeping an open mind. They accept new ways of doing things as long as it keeps the final vision firmly in focus. This builds trust and respect with team members. It also shows their "outside the box" mentality. Creative leaders see many business characteristics that others do not. This opens new doors of opportunity, simply by asking, "what if." Cultivating these leadership qualities within your organization can help it grow and succeed.
