Learning How to Find Your Singing Voice - 8 Great Steps That You Can Take to Discover Your Talents and Ability in Singing

Learning how to find your singing voice may not be as hard as you think. It requires self evaluation and a little courage. There are eight steps that you can take to discover your talents and ability.

1. Do not practice by singing along with the radio or recorded music. You are learning someone else's technique this way. This is very tempting to do, but you should refrain from it, as much as possible.

2. Many people do not practice basic technique enough. Spend time going up and down the scales. Go as high as you can and as low as you can. This will give you a good idea of your range. For example, you may not be able to hit high notes. Do not attempt songs that require this.

3. Record yourself as you practice. This is important for scales. This also gives you a chance to objectively access your ability. You will not sound the same on a recording. However, this is what everyone else is hearing. It may sound good inside your head. However, if it sounds wrong on audio, it will sound wrong to the entire world.

4. After you practice the scales for a while, attempt a song that you like. You will be more likely to continue with it, this way. Do not try three or four songs at one time. Stay with one song until you have it perfected.

5. Shyness is a large obstacle than many vocalists face. You have to practice this, also. A good way is to practice in front of a full length mirror. This is how you will look to the world. This is how others will see you. If possible, make a video of yourself. Study the video and be honest with what you see.

6. Sing in front of family and friends. If you cannot do this, you will not be able to succeed as a professional vocalist. Do not be afraid of a little criticism. It may help you to improve your skills. You must be comfortable performing in front of others. This will give you the confidence that you need to succeed.

7. Many would be vocalist do not know proper breathing. Familiarize yourself with effective breathing techniques. Normal breathing is not good enough for vocals. You need to deep breathe. One good way is to practice breathing through your stomach, instead of your diaphragm. Deep breathing exercises will help you to retain more air. This is essential for maintaining and reaching higher notes.

8. Get serious about your plans for success. You may need professional training. If you are good enough, then go for it. It may involve taking some chances. However, this may be your best chance to do something with your life. You will never know if you do not make an all out effort.

To discover your true voice, you have to be serious and practice. Do not sing along with the radio. Practice going up and down the scales, every day. Listen to your voice objectively. It must be recorded, for you to objectively evaluate it. Practice only one song that you like, and get over your shyness. Perform in front of others, and learn how to properly breathe.
