Liberty University: The Largest Evangelical Christian University in the World

A private Christian University that is located in Lynchburg, Virginia in United States, Liberty University was formerly known as Lynchburg Baptist College. With an enrollment of more than 60,000 students and offering over 60 different academic streams, it is largest Evangelical Christian University across the Globe.

Brief Background

Founded by Jerry Falwell, senior Pastor in 1971, the name of the institution was changed first to Liberty Baptist College in 1976 and thereafter to Liberty University in 1984. With a religious foundation, the University aims at promoting intellectual as well as spiritual development of the students.

Campus Features

Students in the campus attend convocation thrice a week and have the opportunity of interacting with eminent professionals. In addition they are also entertained by professional artists from time to time. Thirty multi storied apartments act as dormitories for students where students have the facilities of cooking their own meals. A clubhouse, swimming pool, computer lab, convenience store, private theater, and billiards room are all there. East and west portions of the campus are connected by a tunnel. Campus bus and shuttle system offers transportation for students and staff.

University Facilities

Apart from the campus facilities there is also the LaHaye Student center that is an 8.400 square meter area with lounge, basketball court, caf, multipurpose room, aerobic room, and cardio as well as weight rooms. Tilley center that is nearby offers TV lounge, pool room, game tables as well as social areas where many students also perform. Highlight of the University campus is the new Tower Theater opened on 24th September, 2010 with a capacity of 640 spectators.

Accreditation

Liberty University was accredited by the SACS or Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1980 and the same was reaffirmed in 2006. Moreover, the University is also accredited by TRACS or Transnational Association of Christian College and Schools since 2008 and received full accreditation from the American Bar Association in 2010.

Academics

As on date, the university offers as many as 71 academic majors for the students to pursue. Majors include Aeronautics, Worship and Music, English, Criminal Justice, Education, Business, Philosophy and Religion, and Nursing.
