If you have recently purchased a new build it will be an empty shell waiting to be

turned into a home for yourself, your partner and possibly your children. Your new build will have plain walls and be in need of a loving touch to turn the house into a home. This is an exciting time as you have an opportunity to put your own stamp on every aspect of your home. When you have purchased an older property you will likely have to live with someone elses choice of dcor until you can afford to change it.

When purchasing a house from new you may have been able to choose some of the specifications for example fireplaces, bathroom suites and kitchens. You may have been able to add flooring of your choice whether you choose a luxurious finish such as tiled flooring or a cheaper alternative such as vinyl floor tiles.

It may take you a year or so to complete the finishing touches to dcor and home comforts. The plaster on the walls of new builds houses often needs time to settle as some cracks may develop this is normal and easy to rectify with fillings.

If you have had fitted wardrobes in your house from new this will be an added bonus and convenience as all your clothes and childrens toys or general bits and bobs can be safely stored leaving plenty of space to decorate your bedrooms with stylish beds. A bed should be an expensive purchase if it is made to last why not purchase a bed with a television built into it. The mattress is important choose wisely and test out various types before committing.

Your living room furniture needs to fit well it is a common mistake to choose a sofa in a showroom to find when you get it home it doesnt fit well into your living room space. Worse again it will not fit through the door. It has been known for people to have windows removed to fit in oversized sofas avoid this costly mistake.

The items responsible for making a house a home consist of pictures, photographs, artwork, soft furnishings and ornaments. It can be very enjoyable choosing artwork or having a family photo-shoot to create a canvas for your new home.

Luxurious curtains and cushions can set-off a room giving it an opulent and homey feel. If price is an issue wait until the sales come on in your favourite stores. Real bargains can be found in your local department stores. It is better to wait than purchase a cheap alternative. Light fittings are very much the same cheap fittings stand out like a sore thumb. Do one room at a time and enjoy choosing look at different styles and designs. Inspiration can be found by watching television programs dedicated to home improvements such as 60 minute makeover or House Gift.
