Living A Recovery Life: Fresh Start, New Skills!
For some of us, having a routine of what needs to be done on a weekly basis is naturally. In the same way, women who were never taught responsibilities. Most likely, will be learning independent living skills. If you are moving from a parents home, guardian's home, or moving out on your own for the first time. Particularly, women in recovery, women just released from incarceration, and much - mature adults, now living alone.
Within our everyday schedules, we are bombarded with: stress, worries if we will have a job tomorrow, kids, homework, taking our car to be serviced, personal crisis, our parents, friends, or just hanging out. Today, most people feel there isn't enough time to manage home and their well being. Although, this may-be a valid point for most of us.
Yet, for women living sober, who are coming from emergency shelters, transitional living arrangements, hotels, motels, and maybe places not meant for human habitation. When they are finally able to move - out on their own, into a new and nice place. They will need to learn basic life skills if they are deficient in these areas.
Successfully managing a household encompasses not only cleaning. But other important tasks such as organizing your kitchen, paying bills, grocery shopping, and much more. Household chores are the inevitable, they must be done in order to feel a sense of organization, cleanliness, and overall appreciation for a clean living environment. I believe when your place is clean, you actually think and feel better.
Here are a few suggestions how to get a good start on your household tasks:
Make sure you have adequate tools and solutions to get the job done(disinfectants and sanitizers)
Make a checklist of what needs to be done (cover all the important areas)
The day before (consider what errands need to be ran before-hand, get plenty of rest)
The morning of your cleaning day (start early, going down your list of must- do's)
When running errands (if possible, call store's, etc., before you head-out, make sure they have what you need, before driving the distance)
