Looking For A New Stove For The Perfect Sauna

In our summer cottage we used to have multiple choices of saunas

. We have an electric sauna and three different types of wooden saunas. A wooden sauna has a benefit of being much more moist, therefore giving a gentle bath. Electric saunas seem to be often a bit harsh and aggressive in heat - usually the heat is also a bit dry.


My favorite sauna lies just 10 meters from the lake. One has to walk across a swamp to get to the sauna but when you get there, its always worth it.


The sauna I have by the lake is close to being perfect. I put a lot of heart and soul into planning it and actually got some really good tips from my grandfather who built the summer cottage (in Finnish: mkki) with his bare hands.


Choosing the stove is not as simple as one might think. You have to do calculations and in basic you can rely on 1kw / 1m3 to be enough. Too small (underpowered) a stove can result in slow heating, bad bathing experience etc.


The stove isnt everything though. You have to put effort in ventilation, glass door / wood door, distances of the stove and naturally isolation. When you put some effort into it, you will get the perfect sauna for your summer cottage.


Finland is known for its saunas. There are over 2 million saunas in the world and most of them are in Finland. So, why do we love sauna?


I think it is a sacred place for us. Men are told to be most honest, open and fluent after a few beers and a sauna. Diseases are told to vanish after a bottle of hard liquor and a sauna. I know, worries seem to magically fade away after a good bath in the perfect sauna.


In the past sauna was actually the only way to wash yourself for many people. Parents took their children to sauna for a bath, children learned and took their children to sauna for a bath. Sauna is an overall purifying experience and to maximize the good feeling I suggest everyone to put some effort in planning the perfect sauna experience.
