Low-Maintenance New House In Scotland An Ideal Choice For Retiring Couple

Many new homes in Scotland are acquired by retirees looking specifically for a new-build because of all the advantages they have over re-sale properties, not least the minimal maintenance they require.Retirement is looking good for Bill and Mary Henderson. Having decided to return to the beautiful scenery of Fife after retiring, the couple trawled the property market until they came upon Redrow Homes' Middlebank Rise development."We were living in a three-bedroom detached property in Norfolk, which we bought as a new-build and decided that as we had both retired we wanted to move back to Fife, where we have family," Bill explains. "We looked at second-hand properties but when we thought about how much they would cost we realised we would be giving up our old home for something that wasn't as good."Bill and Mary had their eye on an older property that needed a fair bit of work when they visited the Redrow Homes development, situated in the historical town of Dunfermline."When we went into the 'Skelmorlie' show home at Middlebank Rise we fell in love with it straight away and we knew it was the style of house we wanted to buy. Mary said straight away that she had found her dream kitchen as she loves the tall units, extra wide drawers and built-in appliances. The house also has a separate utility room plus en-suite to the master bedroom and while the rooms in some of the other properties we looked at seemed small, the rooms here are a good size," enthuses Bill. The Hendersons went on to purchase a four-bedroom 'Skelmorlie' detached villa from Redrow's New Heritage Collection and are delighted with their new home. "We're not planning to move again but if we did we wouldn't buy second hand. I can't do DIY and if anything ever needs doing I have to get someone in. Buying a home that's brand spanking new means we don't have any concerns about repairs and will make sure everything is well looked after," Bill says.Commenting on the development, Bill adds: "The houses are all different designs and even though they are still building it looks neat and tidy and it feels like a community already."A four-bedroom 'Skelmorlie', similar to the one the Hendersons have moved into, is currently on the market at Middlebank Rise from 189,000. The development has two show homes that open daily from 10am to 5pm.30pm.
