The Florida teachers are anticipating the introduction of some incentives for them as the state is having some of the less teacher friendly reputation due to the lack of them. The bill is introduced by the Sen. Stephen Wise from Jacksonville. He has appropriately named this as the Student Success Act. The bill is on the floor for more then six month, and has gone to three different committees. Acceding to the various insiders the bill has bi partisan support yet being little expensive some of the law makers are having time to rethink their position.

The Florida teachers are not small community in any sense, there are about sixty seven school districts and fifty three unions all of whom support this incentive bills avidly. The list of supporting organizations for the bill includes the prestigious Florida School association that has endorsed this bill as well.

The aim of this bill is to start paying the teachers who are working superior work. The SB 736 is increasing the rewards for the teaching community for the first time. While the Sen. Stephen might not find many people supporting him on the floor, the teachers are showing their approval. The supporters of the bills claim that this is totally inline with the grant and race incentive legislation of Florida. With application of this the estimated direct benefits are estimated to be more then $700 million.


The bill has two major incentives, the introduction of incentive pay system, rather then merit one that is in pace in Florida, and the teacher tenure term improvements. According to the supports the teachers are in this business no for money but good will. Some members in the teaching community has shown their disgruntled response by saying that the bill is stalled unfairly, as the large number of teachers means the improvement in any such incentives might be seen as expensive.

The objections that the bill has seen so far are the claim of some about the lack of details, or substantial study to back various implications. Similarly one survey which also has surfaced is even saying that the most voters in Florida are not in favor of improved tenure for teaching staff and even removal of merit pay system.
