Make Your Bedroom More Conducive To Romance
Take a moment right now to think about your daily routine from start to finish
. If it is anything like mine and my spouse's used to be, it ended with you crawling, bleary-eyed and yawning, into bed at some time later than you actually planned. After a quick peck on the lips and flipping the light switch, you both fall asleep before your heads hit your pillows.
It's no wonder then that married couples in America are intimate once a week or even less! The bedroom should certainly be a haven for sleeping, but it should also be more conducive to romance. You should work on creating an environment that makes you want to be close to your partner. But how is this to be done? Let me tell you about the changes that my spouse and I made.
Assess the lighting in your room. Many of us depend on blinding overhead light fixtures to illuminate the darkness, but this is far from mood-inspiring. Why does it have to be lights on or off? Why can't it be something in between?
Strategically place aesthetically pleasing lamps on your nightstand, your dress, and on a shelf. These should have small, low-wattage bulbs in place to create a soft glow. While many couples use candles to do this, many other couples also don't want to bother with matches and the potential hazard presented by open flames.
Lamps require a quick switch, and that's all! You can also consider installing dimmers for the overhead lighting, but this may require the help of an electrician.
If you do enjoy having the pleasant scent from candles, consider purchasing a candle warmer. These are plugged into a wall socket and heat a small platform upon which you set jar candles. The wax melts, releasing your favorite aroma--without the mess of burned out matches and smoke.
Keep it clean! Piles of dirty laundry, an unmade bed, and a dresser covered with beauty products is going to make you more stressed, consciously or unconsciously. Stepping into an organized bedroom will focus your mind and help you relax.
Along the same lines, you need to check your anxieties at the door. I know how difficult that is to do, but women in particular are not prone to get in the mood when they haven't taken a load off.
Plus, forgetting about your daily checklist once you step through the door--for both today and tomorrow--will ultimately help you sleep better, and feeling more rested throughout the day will keep you from hitting the sack right when you get into the bedroom!
