Using a solar cooker can save money, be used without electricity in an emergency situation, and be portable to use anywhere you choose. A solar cooker can be purchased or made at home from components that are free, inexpensive, moderately expensive or some combination of these. These are the steps for making a cardboard solar oven.

First, you will need to find two cardboard boxes where one will fit inside of the other one. They don't need to fit tightly as you will be filling in the space between them with insulation.

If there are flaps on the smaller box, cut them off where they meet the body of the box. If the larger box does not have flaps, you will need to cut it down so there are flaps, and cut the smaller boxes height accordingly. Making A Solar Oven

Spray paint the bottom of the smaller box black, then insert it open side up into the larger box. Fill in all the sides with newspaper and/or left over pieces of cardboard to insulate the space between the boxes.

Glue aluminum foil on all interior sides of the smaller box, and all the flaps of the larger box. Lastly, place a piece of glass, plexiglass or even plastic just inside the larger box so as to cover the smaller box and the insulated sides, but not to inhibit the flaps of the bigger box.

It is neither expensive nor particularly difficult to make a cardboard solar oven, but it can actually be a lot of fun and provide you benefits.

You can take a solar cooker camping as well as use it at home.You can use a solar cooker much the same way as you might use a crock pot in that you can use it for slow cooking by controlling the amount and intensity of the sun.
