Making Your House Secure
The amount of home burglaries in the UK has been decreasing steadily for the past fifteen years
, and a lot of this is down to people having good home security measures in place. However more recently figures have shown that due to there now being less chance of burglary happening, people are allowing their home security measures slip. So what can you do to make your house more secure?
Well firstly you can try and deter thieves from attempting to break into your house. Things such as outside lights that come on when someone moves near to your house, as well as having a dog that will bark at strangers can be great deterrents. Even if you don't have a dog, it is possible to make it look like you do, things such as beware of the dog signs, , food bowls, leads and toys, can all make it seem like you do.
Having a visible burglar alarm is on of the most effective deterrents available. It will either deter them to not even attempt to burglar you, or if they do and they set the alarm off, this will result in them wanting to get away pretty sharpish, as they will not want to draw attention to themselves.
Along with there major deterrents, there are also a many other ones that can help. Not hiding keys in predictable places under doormats, flower pots, etc., or leaving your keys near the front door as thieves can get to them with hooks and magnets.
Next you need to think about defending your home if a thief does decide to break into your house. Having secure doors and windows are very important. Make sure they are kept locked both at night, and when your not at home. Even the smallest window left open will be an easy target for a burglar. Most thieves don't want to draw unwanted attention to themselves by smashing windows, or forcing there way in. They would much rather be quite, and subtle, then loud and clumsy.
My lastA final piece of advice is to mark all your valuable pieces of properties. If you mark valuable items in your house with UV marker pen or writing the postcode, and your house number or name, then it should be easier to get them back, and prove they are yours if the thief is caught.
I hope this advice helps you in making your home more secure, and I hope that you won;t ever need to worry about being burgaled again!
