Marketing Your Small Business

Small businesses know that having to market is a priority if you want to let as many people know about you. It is an essential part of the business process. No matter your business, you won't make any money unless you have customers purchasing your product or service. And the only way to get customers is to market it.

You can have the miracle drug or even the most beneficial service to mankind; but unless people know about you, you can never grow your profits. You are just wasting your time trying to jumpstart your business without marketing involved.

So where do you start? Where you are, of course. Start placing an advert or signage to announce to passersby that you are open for business. Don't forget to have a weatherproof sign so your advert would still be upright no matter how the weather changes.

Next, start having a phone brigade, text brigade, email brigade whatever it is, the bottom line is to get in touch with your target clients to let them know you exist. Talk to them. Put up large poster printing ads in your community. Have your poster printing company come up with a simple yet quality design for your print posters. Have your nephews and nieces go around your neighborhood and put door hangers in every house. Ask your local newsagent if they can have your brochures on their stands.

As long as you're asking anyway, go to your local newspaper and see if it would be possible for your flyers to be inserted in their paper. And leave as many as you can in areas where people regularly congregate, e.g. D-I-Y shops, Laundromat, diners, train station, supermarkets and grocery stores. And don't forget to post your flyers on notice boards and bulletins.

You can also arrange for your small poster printing to be placed on windows of local shops. Of course you need to ask permission and make an arrangement with the store owners. While you're at it, include your local taxi and bus companies. They might be amenable to having your business advertised in their vehicles for a minimal fee.

Then move to the online world. Join networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Post messages and submit articles. There are also online sites where you can advertise for free. Just be very careful when answering queries from prospects. Online sites are notorious for having people messing around with advertisers and wasting their time with nonsensical questions.

Finally, consider having your own website. It's a bit tricky if you're not well versed with putting up a site. But there are many other websites that you can use to start your own spot. Just be sure to browse and choose the most appropriate layout for your particular small business.
