Have you been feeling worn out and stuck? Maybe you feel like life is passing you by and your self esteem is pretty low.
Studies have shown that people over the age of 40 are questioning their career and life choices. It has also been noted that many of these same people want to do something to change but get stuck because they simply have no idea, or energy, to begin the process.
The good news is that almost all of the research shows that taking small steps toward whatever it is that you want is the best way to begin to feel renewed self esteem. This means that you do not have to completely change your life to reap very meaningful rewards.
The reasons why people feel stagnate are as varied as the individuals. Also, the things that people want to do or change in their lives are also quite unique.
The common denominator is how to do it? How do you start and where do you go to begin to regain your feelings of good self esteem?
Five Ways to Get Started
1 Be honest with your self. What areas of your life are draining your self esteem?
2 Make a list but hold off on sharing your list with anyone else just now.
3 Rate your list. Which items bring out the most emotional response from you?
4 Create a game plan. Of those five or ten items that evoke the most emotional response, begin to research ways to achieve them.
5 Take action. Start with one item on your list and follow through until you have achieved your goal.
The purpose of this exercise is to get you in the right frame of mind. Before you were probably negatively concentrating on all that was wrong, now you are focused on positive ways to improve your self esteem.
Expect to feel emotional about your choice to do for your self. This may be part of what you want and need to change. You may be denying your own needs out of an unrealistic need to always be there for "others".
Sometimes people who have decided to make positive changes to their feelings of self esteem find that those closest to them are the least supportive. Take note of this but do not allow it to keep you from moving toward a healthy self esteem.
By using these five easy steps you can and will gain more self esteem. Once you have completed everything on your initial list, use it again to re-evaluate other areas of your life that could use a boost!
