Mayor And Local Celebrity Inaugurate New Recording Facilities

The new recording facilities at Lancaster & Morecambe College were unveiled last

week by the Mayor of Lancaster Councillor Paul Woodruff, who was joined by local celebrity Paul Hayes, presenter of Cash in the Attic and Car Booty.

Members of the community were invited to the college to celebrate the launch of the new LMC Studios on Monday 27th January. Students, parents, college staff and members of the Lancaster & Morecambe music community gathered together for an evening of good food and even better music, which included two bands made up of students currently studying on the Music course at Lancaster & Morecambe College.

The facilities within the LMC Studios are ideal for professional quality recordings ranging from band demos to full albums. Lancaster & Morecambe College also offers on site mixing and mastering by professionals who have many years experience in the industry and have recorded bands from genres as diverse as Punk, Folk, Indian classical, Screamo, Indie, Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz and Electronica. The Apple Mac based Studios, running both ProTools & Logic, boast a range of high quality recording equipment including: Toft Audio Mixing Desks, Neumann, Shure and AKG microphones, outboard valve compressors and effects and an acoustically treated live room and vocal booth.

Paul Hayes spoke on the night of his experience of using the facilities to record his band The Paul Hayes Collection';

"We used the recording studio twice at the end of last year. Nothing was trouble; Louie Davy [music tutor] was particularly helpful."

He also commented on the bands playing at the event and the multimedia displays orchestrated by the Film and TV students;

"It's very good to see the young bands, and I like the idea of including media within tonight. I'd like to do a gig here watch this space! "

The studio was officially inaugurated by Councillor Paul Woodruff, Mayor of Lancaster who, as a musician himself, was extremely impressed with the facilities on offer;

"For me it was absolutely marvellous. The studio has everything a young artist would need or want and it's a great venue with great sound. It's marvellous that the studio is open to the public; they can be very hard to find."Both bands, made up of talented individuals who study at Lancaster & Morecambe College, gave an impressive performance and were rewarded with enthusiastic rounds of applause from the audience and future bookings to play at a range of pubs around the Lancaster area.

Sir Brendan and the Knights of Milnthorpe made up of Lizee Weedy (Vocals), Wes Preuss (Lead Guitar), Tom Wigham (Bass, Vocals), Brendan Poxon (Rhythm Guitar) and Alan Balsamini (Drums) played a mixed set including covers of the Who's My Generation' and Thin Lizzy's The Boys are Back in town'.

The second band Phoenix Down made up of Tom Cross (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) from Lancaster, Ryan Duddridge (Lead Guitar) from Heysham, Adz Woods (Bass) from Lancaster, Joe Croskell (Drums) from Carnforth also played a selection of covers including Stevie Wonder's Superstition' and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers Give it Away'.

Tom Cross, lead singer of Phoenix Down, commented on how useful the new facilities are to the students at Lancaster & Morecambe College and how they have contributed to the bands' success;

"The new studio gives us practical experience in a working environment and helps us to better understand, because there's only so much that theory can teach."
