With normal wear and tear and also because of constant use, these electric irons start giving troubles. Because an iron is an utmost need, we must know how to repair them if they become problematic.

The article familiarizes you with some of the easy steps to fix the electric iron. But before that, make sure you are well apprehended with some of the necessary tools and materials required like voltage tester, screwdriver, electrical tape and distilled white vinegar.

To start with, first select the clean feature on your iron if the steam is leaving deposits or sputtering when using the steam feature. If your iron does not have this feature, empty out the water in the reservoir and fill with white distilled vinegar and water.

Let the iron sit for approximately 30 minutes to soften the deposits. Then plug in the iron and while the iron is sitting upright, select the steam feature. This will clean out any mineral deposits left by hard water. Use caution when you do this--the water will be extremely hot. Repeat this application several times to completely remove the mineral deposits.

If the indicator lamp of the iron does not glow, we may suspect the power cord and find any breaks or worn out areas on it. In case some naked wires are spotted, we use the electrical insulating tape or may opt for a new power cord.

The indicator does not come on even now; the availability of power may be checked. Look if the circuit breaker has gone off. Also, see that the reset button is pressed if a GFI outlet is used. Having ensured this, the iron is then plugged in.

Unplug the iron when repairing the sole plate. If the sole plate is leaving marks clean it with a soft cloth and baking soda. If the sole plate is nonstick, use a soft cloth and soapy water. Then rinse thoroughly. Well, in case you fail t repair the iron, better call in the repair man to troubleshoot it.
