Migrants Pocket Canadian Permits Post Computer Glitch

In the aftermath of a computer error which saw 150 applicants being wrongly proffered

with immigrant permits, they (the candidates) will be offered with the permanent resident status in Canada. The BIG mistake was unearthed when a family from Morocco turned-up at the Montreal airport of Canada the other day in the mistaken belief that they had been proffered with the nations permanent resident permits.

At the airport, however, they learned that the permits were not legal. Later, a check showed that a malfunction from computer had created a situation wherein they were duly informed that they had permits. Ottawa accepts that they (the applicants) had flown to the Maple Country in an absolutely good faith..

Meanwhile, the administration claims that parallel mistakes have been made in the cases of close to 50 applicants under the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) who, at the present, are authorized to usher-in the immediate members of their families along with them. Overall, nearly 150 individuals have been affected.

Jason Kenney, the minister added that it would be essentially unjust to the persons, who have pocketed permits, who ended their affairs back home, behaved in absolutely good faith, and some of them, who, in fact, have turned-up in Canada, to be sent away.

It needs to be mentioned here that the FSWP aspirants had filed petitions prior to February 27 2008. During June 2012, the minister had proclaimed that--in an attempt to discard the backlog of petitions--he would cancel all submissions made to the FSWP prior to the said date.

Still, as mentioned earlier, a glitch from computer saw letters being dispatched to the 50 candidates duly informing them that their petitions has been given green signal. Afterwards, the minister, as mentioned before, informed the media people that it is perfectly right, and in the fitness of things that Immigration Canada proffers permits to the affected people. Kenney also observed that it is hardly surprising that certain mistakes are made periodically.

He further said that Canada Immigration has set-up a fresh computer system which has some serious issues. He continued that the organization comes-up with more than 2 million decisions per annum; nearly 7,000 daily. The government is making a key IT overhaul. Hence, it's all right that a minor mistake of such kind would be made. The minister added that all those people who were to be offered with permanent resident permits--thanks to the computer malfunction--has successfully sailed through their screening for security.

During the month of June 2012, he had proclaimed that the submission charges of close to 280,000 aspirants under the FSWP--who had filed their submissions prior to February 28 2008--would be given back. Kenney continued that their petitions would not be entertained and--in case they wished to gain admission into the nation, via the FSWP--they would have no options except to file a petition once more.

Significantly, several such candidates have moved the courts against the Citizenship & immigration Canada (CIC).
