I listened to Mike Dillard in a recent interview and I was amazed at what I heard
, Mike came right out and said that he was scared of the phone when he was first starting out in network marketing. Can you image Mike Dillard - "The God Father of Attraction Marketing" actually being afraid to speak to people on the phone. You see Mike was dealing with a conflict going on within him that many of you may experience when being involved in a network marketing business. He was dealing with the conflict between what his goals were and what he was doing to achieve his goals. You may see network marketing as this excellent way to exit the rat race and the dead end job that you just hate to go to every morning, but you have not yet developed the desire or don't quite know where to get the right training to actually find the success that you know is just waiting for you. You see Mike always had the dream of being an entrepreneur and enjoying the freedoms that independence brings, but his actions were more around procrastination than the actions needed to create the success he dreamed of. Mike saw this and he he knew something had to change. Of course seeing Mike today we can see that he did get over his fears and his procrastination. It did take him four years but how he is enjoying being a successful entrepreneur and a person who continues to show people how to to find success in network marketing.
So many people see Mike Dillard as this visionary person who has has found success both in network marketing and on the internet but in order for Mike to get over his fear the phone he had to do something about it. To deal with his fears Mike chose to take a corporate job many years ago where he would have to make 300 cold calls a day. This really cured Mike quickly of his fear of calling people. That was a major break through and learning experience for Mike but he also acknowledged that he had to keep on increasing his knowledge in order to become the person worthy of his dreams.
Mike understood that if you want to be successful you have to keep on learning. Mike had the vision to know that Network Marketing was about marketing and people so he began to study both these subjects. He studied many marketing gurus and learned that he had to go after people who were already buying what he had to offer. So Mike found himself calling genealogy list, knowing that network marketers were his target market. He started doing this and while calling his first 300 plus network marketers he acknowledged that he was not going to call genealogy list for the rest of his life. So he decided to change his approach and wondered - how can I get people to call me? If I can stop chasing people and get them to call me, at least 5 to 10 calling me everyday
So Mike began to look to the internet to accomplish this. He began to learn about capture pages and writing good ad copy. He also realized that he had to offering value to others if he was going to attract 5 to 10 people to him each and every day. This is exactly how Magnetic Sponoring got started. In applying this technique he developed a system that worked for him and began to put it into a book. The purpose of this book was to help the people in his primary network marketing company but we all know the success that came out at what is now known as Attraction Marketing
This was very successful for Mike and as his downline began to grow he realized that the product you are marketing really doesn't matter, but instead it's really all about you and your posture. People will join you in your business because they perceive value from you and they feel that you can teach them to be successful . Mike talks about how you care yourself and to never give your power away. He talks about when calling on the phone you should always come from the place of knowing where you are going and that you are not needy for anyone to join your company but instead come from a place of abundance. Mike stresses that you have to get on the phone if you want to be successful in network marketing. He went on to say that although we may have may have many internet marketing skills all that really doesn't work unless you pick up the phone and contact people and talk with them. Network marketing is a people business and you have to call people to be successful. Period! It's really a people business. You have to become a leader and learn all you need to learn to be a success.
You must first find a leader and learn from them then it will be your turn to step into the role of the leader. It is tragic in our world economy with people losing their jobs and so many looking to the internet to learn to supplement their incomes, you as a network marketer has the greatest opportunity to capitalize on this. This is why if you want to be successful in network marketing you have to step into the role of a leader so people will start following you. As people begin to follow you, you will learn that these people are just looking to you for the answers to become successful. Mike Dillard has shared so much with us over the years but there are 3 main things to learn in network marketing - learning how to market, you must be a leader or be willing to learn this skill, and you must pick up the phone and talk to people. It's just a matter of choosing to become bigger. Mike Dillard took on the mindset to learn all he could to be a success and you can do the same. Do whatever it takes. Become the leader, learn those skills and attract the right people to you and find the success and live the life of your dream through network marketing.
