Casey told the press his club kept up with the Revolution and in the end the Rapids earned a point. The forward acknowledged that it would have been nice to get three points. Colorado (10-8-10) was trailing when Casey tied the game one-all with his 16th goal of the season. After Colorado's Omar Cummings was taken down in the scoring area, Casey had the opportunity to fire the ball on a penalty kick. The Rapids star is tied with Dallas' Jeff Cunningham for the league goal-scoring lead.
Casey stated that he never gets tired of being in those situations, but the forward mentioned it would be nice for his team to generate goals in regular play instead of relying on penalty kicks. It was the fourth consecutive deadlock for the Rapids, which has 40 points and remains in the running for a playoff spot. Casey had accounted for game-tying goals off penalty kicks in three of them. Colorado coach Gary Smith said the goal was a huge lift for his club with only 30 minutes left of the game. The coach thought the Rapids could turn the game around with another goal, but the game ended in a tie. New England coach Steve Nicol was extremely frustrated. The coach proclaimed that the Revolution should have won the match.
Nicol stated that New England had enough possessions to put the game away but failed to execute. Kheli Dube scored for New England (10-9-8), winless in its last four matches. The Revolution failed to build on a one-goal lead, even though they played the last 30 minutes with a man advantage. Colorado defender Julien Baudet received a red card in the 60th minute. Colorado is 5-0-3 at home against the Revolution since 2002. Rapids goalkeeper Preston Burpo was playing for the injured Matt Pickens, who missed his fifth straight game due to a knee injury. Burpo is 1-2-6 in his last nine matches and has not won since 3-2 victory at Los Angeles on April 4. Dube registered his eighth goal of the season in the 29th minute and gave the Revolution the 1-0 lead.
Two minutes after Dube scored a goal, New England's Matt Reis dove to block a shot from Nick LaBrocca. Burpo then made a diving save of a shot by Nico Colaluca in the 43rd minute. Casey tied the game after faking Reis to the center of the crease and then hammered a shot to the goalkeeper's right. Casey stated that he just picked a side to shoot on. The forward added that he fired on the right and the goalkeeper went the other way. Both teams had scoring chances late in the game. In the 88th minute, Cummings hit the crossbar, and New England's Kevin Alston shot a wild shot just over the crossbar in injury time.
