An interesting city
In just a few months, the summer season will be here, starting the most anticipated time of the year. When summer comes, everybody wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, away from the problems and the stress caused by work, so the tourist agencies have to work twice as hard in order to help their many clients find the perfect holiday destination. Finding the right holiday destination is not an easy thing to do. It has to match a series of conditions, such as the climate, the facilities, the accommodation, and the entertainment possibilities.
If you are encountering problems in making the right decision, here is a good suggestion: Alicante! You will find Alicante awaiting you on the eastern coast of Spain, bathed by clear and perfectly blue waters and warmed by a very welcoming sun in a relaxed atmosphere that will win your heart. If you wonder why Alicante is the right place for you, then you must realize that it is this city that offers you beaches, picturesque promenades, exquisite restaurants, lively bars and pubs, an active nightlife and a long sightseeing list. You will love it!
The Santa Faz Monastery
The monasteries and the temples in Alicante represent a very important attraction of the city, as they are the monuments that display some very interesting architectural styles. The Santa Faz Monastery is one of the most popular of these attractions in Alicante. Part of the Saint Clare order, the monastery was built in the 16th century, but the church that tourists visit today is not as old, having been built in the 18th century (1732-1790). The edifice was originally fortified, but only a single defense tower survives from that period.
The door of the monastery is decorated in a very fine and elegant Baroque style. If you visit the interior, you will find a chamber that is home to the most important works of art in the monastery: paintings by Juan Conchillos. The chamber is also home to a very precious reliquary thought to be one of the linen pieces used by Veronica to wash and clean the face of Jesus Christ.
Every year, pilgrimages are made to the Santa Faz Monastery because the linen is of great importance to the Christian world. Since the inhabitants of Alicante are very religious people, you will find that many people take part in such pilgrimages. You should try such a pilgrimage at least once. It is a truly unique experience.
