More Information About Arranging Affordable Funerals
Planning a funeral is never something that most of us wishes to think about let alone
discuss with those nearest to us, but it is something that will have to be arranged at some point in our lives. Money is another taboo subject matter, but the two go hand-in-hand and must be talked about when someone near to us passes away.
There have been many investigative studies done over the years that have looked into funeral homes and how they conduct business, and not surprisingly it is quite common for funeral professionals to take advantage of the shock and grief felt by family members by making the bereaved family believe that their loved one would be better off if expensive choices are made. While this seems very unfair, and it is, it is reality and it happens on a daily basis.
When planning a funeral, it is a very good idea to know what to expect from those in the funeral industry. Far too many funeral directors will tell families that affordable funerals are only for those people that do not mean so much to the surviving family and that going 'cheap' is shameful and disrespectful. The worst part is that often the funeral personnel consider anything under several thousand pounds as 'cheap' when in reality you can easily arrange for an entire, tasteful funeral at well below what they consider unacceptable. Keep in mind too that arranging funerals is their business and the average funeral director knows all too well that more often than not, families will do what they suggest and will indeed choose the higher priced options regarding the casket, vault and other services.
One of the best ways to arrange for affordable funerals is choosing an inexpensive casket and burial vault. If the deceased has not specifically asked that you choose an expensive casket and/or vault then you should not feel any remorse about selecting one of the less expensive models as a way to save on costs. If the funeral home you are working with does not have any cheaper caskets on display, be sure to ask to see their catalogue, as they can normally order one and have it delivered well before the day of the services.
If you wish to have music played at the funeral, consider asking someone you know to sing or play an instrument. The involvement of friends and family is not only a great way to save money, but it also adds a personal touch to the memorial service. If you know a florist or someone particularly gifted with flower arranging, be sure to see if they would be willing to help with that aspect, as funeral flowers do cost a good deal of money when ordered from a professional florist.
On a final note, be sure that you take a good friend along with you when you go to make the arrangements. Not only will you be given moral support, but having a person outside the family present will help you to make sound decisions with your head and not your heart.
